Oh, Joy!

Found a cute way to add sound to a blog. For the audio to start when the blog is loaded and stay on, I use the embed tag right in the template, preferably in a place that's going to show way down the page, like after the earliest post, otherwise the blog display me be cut short (like if I place it in the side bar). I prefer using a midi file because it's smaller, faster to load and easier on the bandwidth. Of course, the audio file must reside elsewhere, on another server. Mine is on my own web site. You can use AUTOSTART and LOOP to tailor it in whichever way you want. Check out the Webado Muse's Corner blog for an example of a template embedded midi file. (OK, it's a plug, LOL!)

To add audio to an individual entry in the blog, it will have to be embedded in the particular post. Obviously AUTOSTART should not be used as it will create a cacophony of sounds if other posts have their own embedded audio files or the template itself has one running automatically. But you get the picture. Instead of embedding audio, you may use a link that would point to a meta file hosted elsewhere, which streams an audio file or a playlist. The sky is the limit. Obviously too the visitor must have the right player for the type of audio file.

The blog posts allow a lot of creative use of web design techniques, just keep in mind the restrictions imposed by the template being used. Ultimately a blog can be a really dynamic web site, that you can update from anywhere. It can be easy, no frills, good for those without any HTML knowledge, or it can be as complex as you want to make it. All on the fly!

Quite a powerhouse, this blog!

Here's an example of an embdedded midi file right in this post. Click on the play arrow to hear it . Enjoy!

Sorry - the code below for embedding is no longer valid! Please go to www.webado.net/tutorials-embedding-media.php for correct code.

Your PC's soundcard doesn't play midi? No big problem, use any other media type: mp3, wma, rm, whatever. It might be slower though. Hey, are there still PC's without a midi enabled soundcard? Yeah, my office PC! OK, here is a Windows Media version of the same song:

By the by, just remember copyright laws when using audio files.

Oh, and let's also try it with a playlist in a Windows Media meta file, shall we? Two songs here, no AUTOSTART, so hit the Play button for each one, skip to the second one, come back to the first one, do whatever you want to do. You can make the display of this player as big or as small as you like, with as much or as little control as you wish.
