Ok, I don’t know myself if this is a peeve or a character flaw I have.

I’ve been doing quite a bit of trial-and-error web programming lately. All these seemingly little assignments start like a little challenge, “let’s see if I can solve this little problem here” and tend to grow and occupy a heck of a lot of my time. I still feel it is beneficial to me, since I appear to have learnt a lot while doing this. But I do tend to spend an inordinate amount of time on this, at the expense of healthier pursuits. For one thing I’m running seriously short on sleep lately and that can’t be good.

But I do get some measure of satisfaction when I find a solution to something that eludes me, even though I often end up reinventing the wheel.

So I hate doing it but I have no peace until I finish something. Strange!

Here’s my Pet Peeve du Jour:

People who ask questions in forums and never read the forum to see if their question has been answered before. There are usually FAQ sections everywhere, search tools galore so there’s no excuse. Then, if you post something that says: check the FAQ section, they post again asking the same question. Aaarrrggghhh!

Interestingly these are the same people who prefer not to sign up or to sign into the forum, so they cannot hope to see a list of just new posts (including answers to their own previous posts), so they’ll be blinded by the hundreds and thousands of posts, thus they simply add another post to the pile. It boggles the mind!
