As a part of the Acoustic Nights Montreal Teen Songwriting Competition to take place on June 25, 2011, there was a songwriting workshop last Saturday, June 11. Most of the teen contestants participated and hopefully learned a few useful things that will allow them to improve their songwriting and performance abilities.
The workshop was conducted by several established musicians from Montreal, namely: Johanne Desforges, Annie Becker, Matt Lipscombe, Hadi Adel (Bad Weather aka Rough Draft) and Melina Soochan.
I came away with this important tidbit: write only about things you know.
The workshop was a resounding success.
Looking forward to the competition now. Judging by the Top 10, it should be a great event.
