Migration from Blogger

Ever since Blogger announced it would stop publishing blogs by FTP to other sites I had to debate on how best to move from the Blogger platform. My choices were to point the domain (in fact subdomain) to the site hosted by Blogger by playing with the DNS, or export it and re-import it into a new blogging platform like WP), or rebuild it as a static website.

In the end it was easier to just export and import into WordPress. At least that was basically all except the redirections that were required due to post names not always ending up the same way and archives names being quite different. It’s done, and it’s not too bad.  I even like the WP template I picked. It needs some more tweaking still. Working on it.

I had a second Blogger blog published on another subdomain here (Muses’s Corner) and for that one, since it is smaller, I opted to rebuild it as a stand-alone site, not on any blogging platform.  I like it better this way, while I hated the old blog structure, where I could not find anything.

We will see which decision was better in the long run.
